Ranthambore National Park

Ranthambore National park
About Ranthambore National Park
Ranthmabore Wild life was once the hunting preserve of Maharaja of Jaipur. The national park lies in the aravelli motnain range and Vindhyan plateau. The river champal in the south and banas in the north bounds the park. The natural habitat seen are Sambar, Chital, Nilgai, Gazzelle, Boars, Mongoose, Indian Hare, Monitor Lizards and a large number of birds. The park is famous for the tiger reserve under the tiger project.

The main attraction of the national park is the old Ranthambore Fort, which sits on a rocky outcrop in the heart of the Park. The fort dates back to the 10th century and is probably the oldest existing fort in Rajasthan, was a vital citadel for control of Central India and particularly the Malwa plateau.

The largest populations of animals at Ranthambore are of the herbivorous deer and antelope species. The tiger population consists of around 36 tigers and there are also around 40 leopards at Ranthambore. The wildlife in Ranthambore can be seen on jeep safaris around the park. The animals of Ranthambore are clearly visible through the dry deciduous vegetation. The jeeps maintain a certain distance so that the animals are not unduly disturbed. You can enjoy seeing the wildlife in Ranthambore National Park on Ranthambore safari tours with India Wildlife Tours.

TigerThe easiest way to spot a tiger is to follow the pugmarks with proper guidance. You can find plenty of spotted chitals in the golden grass, a huge barasingha with a pair of magnificent antlers in the shadows. Other than tigers you can see antelopes like, Nilgai, Sambhar and Chital, which are easy to spot. Those who are lucky enough get to see the Sloth Bear, Wild Boar, Chinkara, Porcupines and Jackals, Leopard, Jungle Cat and Marsh Crocodile. The lakes and water holes in the Ranthambore national park are the best places to sight the animals.

Here you can enjoy the rolling grasslands, rushing streams, open scrubs, heavily wooded valleys and through deep ravines walled on either side with steep cliffs.
