the beautiful statue of Aukana which means "eating the sun".
After a full day
of visiting these historical monuments, return to Giritale for a
relaxed evening.

Drive down to Kandy, en route visiting the famous Sigiriya Rock
Fortress - declared as the 08th wonder . It is also
considered a world heritage site. Driving on, you will visit the Dambulla
Cave Temple, a spice garden, a woodcarver and a batik factory. At

Visit the Gadaladeniya Vihare built almost
exclusively of stone in 1344.Lankatilaka Vihare also completed in
1344 but in a more
traditional Sinhalese style.Also the Kataragama Devala at Embekke
famed for its woodcarvings.The devala is attributed to King Wickramabahu
111 (1357 - 1374)

Leave for Pinnawela and visit
the Elephant Orphanage. Return and tour the town of Kandy which
includes the Royal
Botanical Gardens and the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic. Evening
: View a spectacular Elephant Pageant in in Gatembe.

Excursion to Mihiyanganaya - a beautiful drive
to the "Vadda Village", where the most ancient people
of Sri Lanka
